Director's Message

Welcome to the VPT Lab

 Dr. Ann-Margaret Esnard, Director
Dr. Ann-Margaret Esnard, Director

The Visual Planning Technology Lab (previously called the GIS Lab) was established in 1987 and is housed in the School of Urban and Regional Planning. This state-of-the-art facility continues to be a hub for basic and applied planning and policy research, spatial analysis, GIS curriculum development and graduate student training. The role of the Lab continues to evolve as we engage in and take the lead on multidisciplinary projects and research that have national relevance and applicability. One example is a 3 year research initiative on hurricane-induced long term household displacement, funded by the National Science Foundation.

Our staff and faculty associates are committed to our mission to advance research and knowledge on the application of geospatial and visual planning technologies for public and private sector planning and decision-making. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with multi-disciplinary research and practitioner teams in Florida and beyond.

Thanks for visiting our web-site and we look forward to hearing from you.

Ann-Margaret Esnard
Director
