The North Fork of the New River is surrounded by nine neighborhoods: Sailboat Bend, Riverside Park, DURRS, Boulevard Garden, Franklin Park, Washington Park, Broward Estates, St. George, and Roosevelt Garden.While Riverside Park and Sailboat Bend are located in the Ft. Lauderdale city limits, the seven remaining neighborhoods are located in unincorporated Broward County. Three of the unincorporated communities (Washington Park, Frankin Park, and Boulevard Garden) are more than 97 percent black. The St. George community has a homeownership rate of nearly 87 percent, which is significantly higher than the county’s. Washington Park’s homeownership is slightly below the 69.5 percent county average; homeownership in Franklin Park is less than 10 percent.

According to 200 U.S. Census data, the North Fork area, known as Northwest Ft. Lauderdale or the Sistrunk Corridor, has a population of about 11,000.
