Dredging | More Information
This project calls for the removal of sediment from stormwater outfalls in three locations: Harris Terrace, near North Fork Elementary and just north of Broward Blvd. Removing sediment helps to reduce pollution, and improve water quality.


FAPS Waterway Cleanup | More Information


Fort Lauderdale Public Works Department | More Information
The mission of the Fort Lauderdale Public Works Department is "to achieve total customer satisfaction by providing quality public services." These public services include all water, wastewater, and stormwater activities throughout the City of Fort Lauderdale and several adjacent communities. This department, the largest provider of infrastructure service in Broward County, employs more than 500 professionals who currently serve a population of 300,000.


Marine Industries of South Florida Annual Clean-up | More Information
Since 1977, the MIASF has conducted the Broward County Waterway Cleanup in the spring of each year.  The Waterway Cleanup is a volunteer grassroots effort involving many dedicated people working together to keep the waterways of the “Yachting Capital of the World” clean and raise awareness about environmental responsibility.


North Fork Calendar | More Information
In this project, elementary students from the vicinity will be producing a calendar to showcase their talents and promote the North Fork's rich cultural heritage.


North Fork Debris Barrier | More Information
In the summer of 2005, a debris barrier was installed in the North Fork of the New River, down stream of the S-33 water control structure. Its purpose: to collect and contain most of the debris that has entered the canal upstream along Sunrise Blvd. This simple and effective device has already greatly reduced debris problems in this section of the river.


North Fork History Video | More Information
A project produced by the SFWMD and Rainforest Media. The 15-minute program will feature residents reflecting on their own memories of the river, and profile the natural and cultural changes the North Fork has undergone since the turn of the last century.


Pocket Parks | More Information
The North Fork of the New River Pocket Park Standards Design Plan examined the potential for the development of pocket parks along the North Fork of the New River with the intention of promoting enhanced neighborhood awareness and proprietorship of the estuary and its ecology.


Storm Water & Sanity Infrastructure Improvements | More Information
This project should improve water quality in the river and adjacent waterways as well help protect ground water, which supplies most of south Florida's drinking water by eliminating existing septic tanks and their associated drainfields, reducing the potential for introducing domestic waste, household chemicals and other potential contaminants into the river as well as the area groundwater.


Vegetation Control & Native Landscaping | More Information
The District is currently in the process of removing all the non-native and invasive plants along the North Fork of the New River between Sistrunk Blvd. and the Broward County Juvenile Correctional Center. Once these plants are removed, native plants will be re-introduced to the shoreline.


Water Quality | More Information
Throughout its 34 year history, a large portion of Broward County’s involvement in the North Fork New River has focused on water quality monitoring and improvements.
